THE MYBA SELECTION

The MYBA Selection is a new initiative from MYBA – the Worldwide Yachting Association. Backed by the world’s leading brokerage houses, with Boat International Media as the exclusive media partner, it is aimed directly at those buying and selling used yachts with no distractions. Taking place at the same time as the Monaco Yacht Show, a selection of yachts listed by MYBA members will be displayed in the tranquil waters east of Cap Ferrat.
“On the opening morning of the 2008 Monaco Yacht Show we counted 104 large yachts anchored off the Principality, in depths of up to 60 metres, rolling in the heavy swell,” says Neil Cheston, MYBA. “The owners of these yachts had found themselves either unable to secure a berth on the docks, or else were unwilling to pay the price of opening their doors to the public at the world’s leading luxury goods showcase.”
At The MYBA Selection prospective buyers will be offered the chance to take private viewings of the yachts on display. They will be taken by private tender directly from the Monaco Yacht Show to The MYBA Selection fleet in the Rade de St. Hospice. Alternatively, a fleet of S-Class Mercedes – badged and chauffeur-driven – will be available to transport them in cocooned luxury from Monaco to St-Jean, where the yacht’s own tender will meet them.
“A yacht can be a very personal and private asset,” continues Cheston. “When an owner decides to sell, the only people he really wants inspecting it are prospective buyers and their brokers. For yachts that are “not quite new”, the cost of exhibiting at these shows is not always easy to justify.”
“The Monaco Yacht Show is the most important yacht show in the world for the world’s largest yachts,” says Nicholas Edmiston, chief executive of Edmiston & Company. “It is so important for us at the top end of the yachting industry that the demand for berths always outstrips the supply. To satisfy that demand, MYBA has established an “At Anchor Show” in the sheltered waters off St Jean Cap Ferrat which will provide the much needed additional space. Weather permitting, I foresee The MYBA Selection being an extremely successful event.”
